Frequently Asked Questions
What type of products are you looking for?
If you believe that your product would be useful to us or our customers, we want to hear from you. We’re particularly interested in products that are innovating across six key areas: fit, new ways to shop, supply chain, customer experience, customer loyalty and utilising new data. If you don’t think your idea fits in one of these categories, but still believe it’s a great fit for N Brown, you can consider applying under the ‘Wildcard’ category. For more information, please see the Categories section.JDWorks Categories
I’m quite an early stage startup - am I right for JDWorks?
I've been in accelerators before and have customers - is this right for me?
Do I need to give away equity to participate?
No, we do not ask for equity for participating in this programme. However, teams may have the opportunity to pitch for investment from the JDWorks Microfund for teams on the programme.
Are you asking for exclusivity?
No, we’re not asking you to sign an exclusivity agreement. We want to build a relationship based on trust and, if we like each other, we hope that you’ll see us as the first port of call when you need feedback on your new products. Please be aware that, if accepted onto the programme, we will ask you to sign a mutual non-disclosure agreement (NDA) which you will need to adhere to, even when working with other parties in the retail sector.
Will I need to disclose confidential information about my business?
If you are invited to join JDWorks, we will ask you to sign a mutual non-disclosure agreement (NDA) – this means that we’ll keep your confidential information confidential, and you’ll need to do the same for us. This will ensure we can work together productively on the programme. However, when you’re applying to join, neither party will be under NDA, so please only share with us information about your product or business that you consider in the public domain. If you have concerns or questions, please email the team at email@example.com
What’s the deadline for applying?
6th August 2016.
What happens once I’ve applied?
Once you’ve submitted your details via our application form, our delivery partners L Marks will review your answers to confirm your suitability for the programme. Where you’re a good fit, L Marks will be in touch to gather some further details and answer any questions you have before your details are submitted to the JDWorks programme committee for their review.
Up to 25 teams will be invited to attend the JDWorks Pitch Day in Manchester on September 7th. You’ll be asked to prepare for a short presentation and Q&A. If we believe your business will succeed on the programme, we’ll extend you an offer to participate the following week.
Is there a minimum age for participating?
You must be at least 18 years old to enter JDWorks.
I don’t live in the UK, can I apply?
Yes, of course. We accept teams based around the world. You may need a visa to participate in activities in the UK as you will be required to travel to be in Manchester for at least two days a week whilst on the programme. We do not plan to make exceptions to this rule, but will review requests on a case-by-case basis.
Will you review my criminal record before I can participate in the programme?
Yes. Each team member will be asked to submit their details to a criminal checking authority prior to entering the programme. Details of unrelated criminal history will not be passed to N Brown or L Marks. If you have questions about this process, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Are you offering any travel support or assistance?
Travel support to participate in activities in Manchester is at N Brown and L Marks’ discretion.
